TONY MOORE REFLECTS ON THE SUCCESS OF ‘AWAKE’ TOUR, DISCUSSES FUTURE PLANS, AND EMBRACES UNEXPECTED CONNECTIONS WITH BRITISH LION By Mark Lacey

“When Steve asked me to do the tour, I wasn’t quite sure how an audience of people who didn’t know anything about me would respond to what I was doing. But the response has been phenomenal. I’m really just telling a universal message, and a personal story. But I’ve found after the show, dozens of people come up to me and say something similar has happened in their life. To see me talk about it and sing about it in a positive way has actually been really helpful for them”. Read full interview here!

Live Review: British Lion – London By Jacob Schwar

Tonight’s performance was a special pleasure for not only was it sold-out but the venue was no other than the famous, or should I say infamous, Cart and Horses pub in the east end of London. The pub itself has a strong and personal history for Steve Harris, especially as it’s the one venue where Iron Maiden really got established… Read full review here!

Gig Review : British Lion – UK Winter Tour 2024 With Special Guest Tony Moore’s Awake Cheese And Grain, Frome By Gary Spiller for MPM

On what is one of the coldest nights of the winter thus far we trek Somerset-wards for our first gig of the new year. With the mercury recording figures in the negative the much-revered British Lion await us in the friendly surrounds of Frome’s Cheese And Grain.

It’s, without a doubt, one of our favourite venues to work, always a warm welcome and a relaxed yet professional environment. This evening the heating system, mercifully, is in on the welcoming too with the environs of the spacious hall plenty warm. Read full review here!

Fair play to Sir Steve Harris. It’s a cold and damp January night in Scotland and he could be back home in The Bahamas in his speedos with his butler, but instead he’s out there with his left foot on the monitor, as usual, still wearing shorts to show off his footballer’s calves, and giving every bit as much commitment as he would if he was playing at Rock in Rio with his other band. Tony Moore, touring “Awake,” a new album for 2024 Featued in Rock the Joint Magazine

Award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tony Moore is pleased to announce Tony Moore Presents ‘AWAKE’ in Guildford, Surrey, for October 2023, which will see him visit the town for the first time with his live show on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, in the intimate surroundings of The Electric Theatre.

Tony Moore is a British singer and songwriter who has had a truly eclectic career in the music business. He started his musical life as the one and only keyboard player in the original lineup of Iron Maiden. He then went on to form a band called “Tanz Der Youth” with Brian James (ex-Damned) and achieved critical acclaim as part of the “New Wave” of British music at the end of the 1970s. Let’s start with awake. What was your inspiration?

Interestingly, enough, the whole show and the whole album is based on one guitar riff. This was in January 2021, it was a second lockdown in the UK. I was in the shed in the back of my mom’s garden, because I was looking after mom. All I could really do is make music. I know this won’t transcribe very well, but I just came up with this (plays a melody) little riff. I created a little bit of a backing track. I put the riff on top of it for about two minutes with no singing. I recorded it. And I sent it to some friends. Like I do on WhatsApp. I got this incredible response from people. That encourage me to do some more. After about four minutes, I thought I can do some singing now.

Former Iron Maiden, and Cutting Crew musician, Tony Moore on his forty-year journey towards creating the ‘Awake’ show; his cinematic masterpiece, and life’s work.

Across an industry that can be unforgiving, Tony Moore is one of its most positive, and endearing characters. Since taking a short-lived chance opportunity to join Iron Maiden in 1976-77, his career has seen many twists and turns; performing with Tanz Der Youth, Radio Java, and the chart-topping Cutting Crew; playing the closing ceremony of the 2019 European Games in Minsk; and championing the next generation of musicians through his Kashmir Club and the Bedford. His greatest personal challenges came to him during the lockdown, which saw him battling against the attack on the creative industries, whilst also becoming a full-time carer during his mother’s final days with dementia. His latest work ‘Awake’ is perhaps his ultimate calling, as he uses his one-man show to share messages of love. Read my full interview with Mark Lacey here.

“It’s been a while since I last caught up with Tony an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Tony Moore is a lifelong musician with an eclectic career that includes playing with Iron Maiden in the early days, being a keyboard player in Cutting Crew (I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight) in the ’80s as well as releasing and performing his own music to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.” Read the full review here! The Cart and Horses, Stratford, has an association with Iron Maiden that goes back decades. Steve Harris first performed with Gypsies Kiss 39 years ago, and he later returned with Iron Maiden, who had their first residency there. Fast forward to 2023, and the pub has a new, multipurpose basement venue where this week, the musical chameleon and ex-Iron Maiden keyboard player Tony Moore brought his one-man stage show Awake for one night only. Delighted to present Tony Moore with the SongLink Song of the Year Award for ‘Crazy in the Shed’ at the Bedford last night. Tony played his 14th performance of the ‘Awake’ double album last night, (December 22, 2021) a superb show as ever. Plus I stepped up to play tambo on the reprise at the end, go Tony and keep Awake going in 2022!”

David Stark, Founder SongLink International

“Are you awake yet? Then let us begin. On Tuesday night I was among an enthusiastic crowd at The Bedford in downtown Balham (gateway to the south – yes, I remember, get on with it) to watch Tony Moore perform his awesome concept album in the making, AWAKE. Tony has enjoyed a fruitful career in the music industry from playing in an early lineup of Iron Maiden to working with several bands, including Cutting Crew as its keyboard player in the 80’s, plus writing and performing as a singer-songwriter. He is a spirited champion of new, emerging talent via his radio work and curation of The Bedford as a venue that is very much the home of new music in the capital.” Read the full review here!

“AWAKE” is a concept album. In an age where people are releasing solo tracks, I’ve gone against the grain and gone right back to my roots to the 60s and 70s rock kind of concept albums and progressive rock, and made something for me really that I am absolutely passionate about. It seems to be translating to other people and the tagline is in a nutshell, “ It’s a journey to discover truth, meaning and love in a world that’s gone crazy.” So that should tell you quite a lot about it. It’s about these last 18 months. It’s about my observations and my thoughts and my feelings and my creative response to what I’ve been thinking about. It’s also about looking at my life‘s journey. I think one thing that’s happened over the last year is I don’t think there is a single person on this planet that hasn’t at some point just questioned what their life is about, and where their life is going, because everything was thrown in the air in a way that there was no certainty or no future that you could plan on.” Read the full interview here!
